Overlooking Coleraine is a low hill that has always been known as "The Points" in reference to the small volcanic cinder cones that are prominent. Although for many years it was neglected and largely unforested, Peter Francis, a shearer and bridge-builder with a love for eucalypts, set about changing that and started planting a few trees. Gradually, the landscape was transformed as more and more trees from all over Australia were added, eventually becoming one of the largest collections of different eucalypts to be found anywhere in Australia.
Today, the Points Arboretum is place of peace and natural beauty with several kilometres of easy walking trails among the native trees, bushes and wildflowers. It is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, and we welcome anyone who would like to join us, either as a member, or just helping in the tidying up working bees that are organized from time to time.
